Shipping Central being towed to Flinders Island
by Rob Kothe on 29 Dec 2000
The list of retirements from the 2000 Telstra Sydney to Hobart race increased to 20 overnight with the Beneteau 40.7 Shipping Central losing her rudder north of St. Helens. She has been taken into tow by the St. Helen's police boat. The initial plan was to take the vessel south to Bicheno, however the gale force winds of 35-40 knots made towing the rudderless boat difficult.
The St. Helens Police boat and Shipping Central are now running north before the seas to Flinders Island.
