At some point during Salcombe Week sailors will have to contend with a start at low water, when the harbour is even narrower and space on the line limited
Even in the days of small spinnakers, Salcombe could be a testing venue of fresh sea breezes, strong tides and very close racing
Although not on the same scale as the beach at Abersoch, Portlemouth (just across the harbour from the town at Salcombe) has to be one of the prettiest boat parks anywhere in the UK
