I have recently purchased a "mature" Enterprise which is not in too bad a condition but needs one or two bits of fettling. One issue is with the track that sits on top of the transom which had been somewhat bodged previously. It had been badly bent and some of the screws were large pan-head self-tappers which of course did not permit any of the sliding parts to slide past them!
I have taken all the screws out and the track off and bought another track to put on. I will use new counter-sunk stainless steel screws of the appropriate size (any ideas from anyone?) but the big issue is how I fill the old screw holes to give the new screws something to purchase on. I have thought of using a two part epoxy glue to fill the holes but i am concerned that this might not be suitable. Any suggestions on this from anyone?? TIA, Nick

Get a WEST systems 101 mini pack at your local chandler. It's a two pack epoxy, but includes microfibres and low density filler that dries to a brownish colour. I'd probably do a mix of the two fillers with the resin for this job.
By the way the pan head scres on the track are an intended feature. With today's modern kickers there's no need for the mainsheet slider to slide any further than the first screw hole beyond the transon tiller port.

I would drill out the old screwholes and epoxy dowel into them.

Thanks both for the suggestions. A further question to jaydub - when you say you'd do a mix of the two fillers with the resin, what resin are you talking about? And the two fillers are presumably the two materials in the West systems 101 pack?
With regard to the pan head screws they were not located as you mention but scattered along the track (only about half the track holes had screws in at all). The movement was limited to only the part of the track above the lowered part of the transom where there were no screws at all. Does anyone know of any good books (or websites) which would cover restoring an old(-ish) Enterprise?

Yep. Mix the resin and the hardener in the 101 pack and then add some of the microfibres and the low density filler to get the consistency and colour about right.

in terms of sliding along the track , unless things have gone retro , theonly reason for the length of track on many Ents is the requirement that 'high' tiller transoms have a track bridging the cut out
