Did they buy 6 new all those years ago, or have they gathered them together since? Impressed either way - the former because they have kept them running, the latter for having stayed glued to boats and outboards for years at a time!

I think newcastle got 6 new to them lest year, not sure who they brought them off, but assume is was another uni who got them new. They had sponsered sails (playstation) so that would suggest they had been involved with someone like west kirby at some point.

the 1st ISAF TR Worlds was hosted by West Kirby in Freddies with Playstation branding. The boats were all Porters with swept-back rudders. I'm pleased to see that those boats are still going strong amongst the northern universities, but roll-tacking those is a nightmare - if you're not careful you fill up.

Now I know why my daughter's skint. Pity she's not interested in sailing being in such a great location. Good luck with the boat hunt.

Bank of Mum

Is she a fresher then? Hope she is enjoying herself. If she does nothing else, get her to try surfing. As for the sailing, we are working on it, these things take time.

We were talking and thought the J24 is great for teaching people on. Been looking at other keelboats which are relatively cheap. Before I say anything, can you guys reccomend some good, cheap keelboats?

Potentially we have access to a flying 15. Never sailed one so no idea what they are like. How about squibs? What else is cheap?

Or when the wind gets up and people start to capsize them! Looking round from the safety RIB and seeing 3 boats with transoms below the water crew looking bemused and of the other 9 2 going through nasty looking gybes and the other 7 planeing around is abit of a daunting moment.
