Hey guys, I'm thinking about selling my Pico to add to my
fund for a new boat. I'm not really sure how much it will really be worth. It has two sets of toe straps, good condition hull (few nicks here and there but noting major), the fittings are still flawless, sheets fairly new aswell. The rudder is in good condition, but the centre plate is pretty bashed up, but works nonetheless. It has a jib, dacron mainsail (totally shagged, only good for when its really windy) and a really, really nice, practically new mylar race mainsail with battens, although it is not the official race sail. Pretty good condition boat, sails well, has everything required to use. How much do you think it is worth? http://www.roostersailing.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc? Have a look at www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk and www.apolloduck.co.uk as well as the Y&Y classifieds. Search for Pico, and look at a range of ads to find out where yours would fit comparing age and condition etc, and price it accordingly. For example: http://sailingdinghies.apolloduck.co.uk/search.phtml?search= Pico&sr=1&q=1 Be realistic about the price and list it at one that seems fair, too much and no-one will be interested, too little and you will lose out on money.
Edit: Btw your link didn't work for pics unfortunately. Edited by zzzz |

Good luck with the sale of the Pico and with the next step up the sailing ladder! One point to note is that the run up to Xmas really isn't the best time (even Picos don't find their way into many kid's stockings). Plus, the New Year always sees a glut of Picos as every sail training centre sells off their (usually pretty fair) stock of one year old Picos, and people tend to see their 2010 sub/berthing fees and decide that their hardly-sailed Pico has to go... Don't let me put you off, but rather than having an advert on ApolloDuck for four months or so, bide your time - if you can bear to wait |

True, but all it takes is one person to want a pico of your age/spec and you can sell it, spring early summer is probably the easiest time to sell as people are looking to buy a boat for summer. As long as the price is fair, and someone wants to buy a pico now you will sell it. No harm in putting an ad up especially since they are free, then if it doesn't sell just re-list it in a few months. Good luck with selling it, and re-investing in another boat is obviously the way to go! |

Thanks for the advice, I need a quick sale really as there
is another boat that I am buying with a mate who I already sail with, and this boat is fairly hard to come by second hand. |

Stick it on Ebay then Mister Nick, make the tart price nice and low to gain an early interest (Like 99p) Make sure the reserve is the absolute minimum you would take for the boat! Everyone is a winner

Very valid points from all, over winter loads of centres sell their fleets so the market is fairly flooded. Ebay is a good shout, if your not too fussed about how much you want for it then its definatly worth putting it on there. Good luck! |

Bear in mind that at the minute you can get a new Pico with a trolley and cover for the princely sum on £1450 (according to a poster on the board at my club).... Someone has one on the clubs for sales board at £1700, I don;t think they stand much of a chance of getting that! |

If its the poster I think it is; then it was for our annual "Sale Day". The, "from £1450" price on the Pico and would have been a second hand or used boat from one of our training centres. That price was also only valid on the Sale Day which was over the weekend just gone. The RRP of a new Pico is £2395. |
