I never really fell in love with it, mostly after an early incident when some kid who had finished kept hunting me and I couldn't cross the finish line as I kept getting penalties...
Although to be fair the admin fella did deal with it when I had a good whine... |

I couldn't get on site at all, not home so not sure if that's cured now.
I know what you mean - it can be frustrating, but I reckon I've learnt more rules andd more importantly application of them from sailx than in 30 yrs of sailing up to then. it should also teach some simple truths - like cross the fleet on the favoured tack when you can, don't pile in on the port tack lay (unless you're feeling lucky). Importance of good starts, finding a lane etc, or recovery from poor start via clear wind and playing shifts. etc etc. I like it!

And most admins will act if you ask them too.
It's just hard to be playing and watching all incidents across the field so sometimes needs to be highlighted who needs watching / throwing off.

Here's what you did in 1984 before SailX was invented. ![]() |

Simpler time back then. The youf of today have no idea what it was like to load a computer game up off a tape!
Love the fact that this is marketed by some small time developer and you have to buy it mail order. |

I see from another advert that John Caig didn't write the program; it was John C Smith who was the commodore at their club at the time.
What a shame I missed this. I spent hours playing with BASIC on my Spectrum as a kid, and would have loved a sailing game. Never did care for space invaders or Hungry Horace that much. |
