I have an RS600 with the old type of boom - where the outhaul attaches to sail the boom has hairline cracks - speaking to someone at my club apparently this is common and there was a fix retrospecitively fitted (small metal plates to reinforce the fittings on the boom).

I spoke to LDC and they no longer have any, Proctor didn't seem interested/have any either - anyone got any ideas where I could get them from/or how to fix. It currently sails fine but its only going to get worse.

Many thanks for any help with this.

Welcome to the forum Light, sadly I can offer no help with the 600 question, but there are some very helpful people here and I am sure you will soon have your answers.

Hi,

Suggestions as follows.

Wanted ad in Yachts & Yachting and your local FreeAds paper.

Check RS website to find out which clubs sail RS600's. Write wanted ad and send to secretary of each club asking them to put your ad on their notice board.

May be less hassle to buy a new boom though.

You could try stop drilling the crack.

If you take a small drill say 3mm diamiter and drill a hole about 3 to 4 mm beyond the visable end of the crack then that should stop the crack from growing any further.

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right
