Need to replace the halyard and a few other bits on the OK.

Thinking of using splices on the halyard instead of knots so that it runs easier through the blocks. Was going to use marlow excel racing for the halyard and a few other jobs how easy is it to splice?

I have never tried to splice before, always avoided it cause it looks like hard work?

Adam if you use excel racing it will be a piece of cake.

I'd suggest tapering it first so pull out the core where you want it to taper, cut the outer so that you have a tail if 5-10cm, then using a splicing fid run it inside the core.

Splicing the loop at the end is then really easy. There are several good guides on the internet. You just run the tail back inside the core and put a couple of locking stitches with some whipping twine.
