"It turns out, having actually investigated using Safari, that it's all down to 

your textarea for submitting forum posts. You have wrap="PHYSICAL" 

which every decent browser ignores, but Safari takes as an instruction to 

insert line breaks after each logical line. So you get line breaks inserted 

inside forum tags. I sugggest that wrap="SOFT" would be much better - 

it respects the line breaks inserted by the user, but doesn't insert new 

ones at the end of each logical line.
