Okay, i stuck my hook through the 600 on Xmas eve. i intend to sand it back a bit and then fill it. would i need to put anything more substantial than gelcoat filler in to keep the boat together? its only a small hole, and its not in a highly sressed area. any other tips on mending it are apreciated. thanks. |

Have you just gone through the outer skin, not all the way through to the tank I take it? If you've crushed the foam inside then I'd inject some epoxy just to make sure you don't have a weak spot, after than just fill and sand the gelcoat and it should be fine

I bet that hole was tiny to start with! He just kept making it bigger and bigger! |

I'm not sure how thick the foam is but as long as you can't see a hole through to the other side you should be able to treat it as if you'd just dented the foam. If you mix some thickening agent with the epoxy it will strengthen it even further. I've been using carbon filings (£2 a bag from Carbonology) mixed with epoxy to repair the Moth (yep broken it already) and based on how hard it is to sand it seems to be stronger than the original material! |
