I am doing some research for my final year project at university, looking into the development and design of modern day racing yachts and dinghies. Please follow the link to my site, where your opinion’s and views are very important to me. Thank you to everyone who responded to my earlier post ‘ I need everyone’s help – The Sailor’. And for those who were a little unsure I hope this provides you with a bit more information. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hm - I've spent 5 minutes on your website and am not at all clear what you are looking for. The popup ads didn't encourage me to stick around either.

I looked at the questionaire and fail to see the relevance of it to your original question so I did not fill it in.  I think you would be better to directly approach yacht designers and ask them.  It could also be worth your while reading all the other threads on this forum.

the relevence of the questionairre is to find out what types of boats people sail, why the sport is popular and what attracts people to either dinghies or yachts. what i am trying to get out of this particular area is whether people enjoy the thrill of a high performance dinghy as much as they like to cruise along on a yacht and whether they would be persuaded to change their sailing habits? i have contacted designers, thank you for the suggestion though.

The project is quite a large proportion of my final mark, so won't be just a question answer sheet. other areas of research have to be investigated. They dont look like they are directly linked to the thesis title, but ultimately will lead to a conclusion.

Ahhhh......a good old SIHE student

Was there 12 years ago when they did the yacht design out at Warsash.  So many fond memories......pints of diesel......the weekend carnage out on the water......guns......fire trucks.....

Well I could, but then again, it would be simpler to stay away from your site.

However I will make one suggestion. The biggest two keelboat classes to have emerged in the Solent in the last 10 years are the Hunter 707 and Laser SB3. There are several 100s of people (crews and helms) sailing those classes. If you consider why those classes have attracted people, that may answer some of your question. Both classes have their own bulletin boards - why not ask them what they like about the boats?
