Where do these stories come from? I've never owned a 14, but my Cherubs have always been very cheap to run over the long term. Petrol was always the biggest running cost.

14's are just as cheap to repair as all the other skiffs, in fact i think they break less the 9ers, if you even breath on a 9er main you make a hole in itmy 14.5 stone on the 14 main, just a small tear (still usable)  Where does this crap come from??
