Hiya,

Doing some team racing on a Firefly tomorrow but know absolutely nothing about:

a)Fireflys

b)Team racing

Any advice on how to sail them (technically as well as optimum angles for vmg's etc.). Are they farily tippy (i.e. will I need a wetsuit or will foulies and boots suffice?)

Tips on team racing?

I spend most of my time racing yachts and sports boats (have been doing it proffesionally for a while) so understand the mechanics and sailing and the rules etc. but am hoping not to embarrass myself too much tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

You need to be able to tack, gybe, stop and accelerate from a standstill, on demand and in quick succession.  A wetsuit might be a good idea since the boat practically sinks if you capsize.  Have a look at the scoring system - you won't win if you cross the finish first and leave your mates in the last 2 positions.  If you're against a team who have done it before you don't stand a chance

Real easy to capsize if you over do the roll tacking.

When its full of water sit right back to get the nose up.

It has been a few years since I have sailed in a Firefly but back then our bailer was a two gallon bucket!

Then again maybe the new Rondar boats handle a bit better.
