Don't even start me on that formula.

No handicap for Beam how

Hurricanes have proved how to make the most of the formula. Drop a bit of jib, add a bit of weight and hey presto it allows a 21 sq metre kite. all they need now is some beam extensions, free under the rule!!!!

Any forumla will always be "designed to".  The Hurricanes have done a fine job in that.  Also look at some other boats, they are spot on the "roll over" point to the better number - The Shadow beinga  good example!

The SCHRS rule is being looked at and will be updated for the next ISAF meeting in the Autumn.  A beam factor is currently being considered and will (hopefully) be included assuming the ISAF approve it.

A number of other things are also being looked at too.

More info soon (I hope)

To make matters worse for fatties in cats , the SCHRS handicap  formula rates you at 75 kgs a person !!!!!!!, so fatties at 110 kgs plus (they are out there !) are at a disadvantage before they even start .10kgs is about 1 percent on handicap .

Then you get light b*ggers who are less than 75kgs each getting an advantage on their rated weight .

seems a shame a formula that takes weight into account doesn't address this.

It never pays to be overweight in a cat with modern rigs etc .

But how would you address it ?

Get everyone to hop on the scales before the start of a regatta so they can have their own personal Hcap for that event.  Would be a nightmare to administer !

Why not , or as everyone does allready under rule as it is , self certify and if someone doesn't believe it you can be subject to protest , no one checks schrs measurements at events , hurricanes can sail off at least 4 different varients and other boats too in different configurations, with different hcaps.

How long would it take for an entrant to turn up with the their schrs fomula with weight printed up and submitted with entry , if found to be cheating they could be yellow carded (chucked out of regatta ) then red if done again (chucked out of racing that season )  seems pretty simple to me .

Laser 4000's have weight equalisation and don't seem to have any probs running it and it works on self policing , at big events they check top crews ,  even in keelboat racing crew weights are part of handicap and a self policing and check system is run .

why do cats have to be so backwards , or are they weight discriminists , might just take SCHRS to human rights .

SAVE The WHALE !

just a thought , spose for the skinnys in majority , not their  prob.
