Hi There,

We are looking to purchase a dinghy, we are looking into RS200 and Vago.

We have not used any of them, they will be used in the west coast of Sardinia (good wind and waves), 2 men, one 6FT per 100kg the other 5,7 per 75kg. So heavy in weight but very muscolar.

One decent sailor (tho not too much experince in dinghy) one pretty novice.

Thoughts?

Also do you know any good company to trasport a dinghy from the UK to Italy?

Thansk,

Fran

Hi, both boats carrying capacity is less than your combined weight. Try Google search for dinghies with your all up weight.

Yup, 200 has a rep for being quite flighty so not a beginners boat and the Vago is more of a beginners boat but you would still be better off with something that carries weight better. An RS400 might work, or if you want a trapeze, consider an old 505 or an ISO.

TBF, re-reading your OP, your lack of dinghy experience might be a bit of an issue though, in any of the above expect to do a fair bit of swimming to start with. Or look at more user friendly boats like Wanderer, Wayfarer or Stratos. The latter in particular is still a reasonably exciting boat to sail in a breeze and waves but is a lot more stable and forgiving than your choices or my other suggestions.

Dinghy transport from UK to Garda can be arranged by https://www.sailboatdeliveries.co.uk/ so perhaps they can manage Sardinia too. Try emailing them.

NOT the vago. It's small and cramped and very wobbly for its performance level. It was an attempt by laser performance to make a quickish skiff style plastic "rotomould" boat..but it's a compromise in too many ways. Heavy but flexy. Similar in size and weight bearing to the 3000, 29er and topper buzz ( though the buzz is a bit bigger) which are all asymetric trapeze boats for smaller adults, teenagers and adult / child pairings

The 200 is a quite different and much better boat but harder to sail and aimed at light and nimble teams with insufficient weight for the rs400.

Mostly though youre too big for a vago or an rs200.

If you want an easy to sail, stable, easy learning curve boat get a 2000. If you're willing to struggle a bit at first..and if there's another at your club to give advice, maybe an rs 400. I always liked the laser stratos (like a big 2000). All hiking boats. Traditional classes might also suit: wayfarer? osprey or javelin ( if you want to trapeze) ..tho they all come with symmetric kites ( and associated complexity) and a lot of sail and rig control ropes to pull...but you don't have to use them all!

The L3k, Buzz and 29er are all small people's boats, optimum weights closer to 130kg than 180...

Not many of the widely available boats in that range, Enterprise, GP14 etc. Fireball ok, depends if they want to trapeze.
