My thoughts exactly.
The point of going to an event is to sail against the other people.
While it's nice to recognise those that have done well, handing out loads of 'gifts' doesn't really inspire me.
I'd rather see lower entry fees so more people turn up.
The odd well-targeted award for improvement or tenacity usually goes down well with the crowd  though.

Mine too  Thumbs Up

At most events I've been involved in running prizes far into two categories, the plaques/glasses/medals etc for finishing places and product prizes, the former are usually paid fro from the event budget so economies could be made and the latter come from the event sponsors so don't have a direct impact on entry fees.

If it's a cvrda nationals event you could be awarded a nail stuck in a bit of wood or an old Int14 mast gate and those are returnable trophies. Unless it's a really big event and we've got some sponsorship you're likely to get a bottle of wine or beer at the most!

Of course, with the cvrda nobody remembers who wins, either. But we all remember the boats and the conversation.
