And after that people worked out that there was no need for a separate space frame, all you need to do was put the structure in the boat where it needs to be. With hindsight its amazing it took us all so long to figure out something so bleedin' obvious.

Yes, after all, they'd made the same leap to monocoques in F1 in the early 60s, which makes you wonder why the space frame was later introduced into boats...

Could be because a metal frame won't creep when left under load, whereas a plastic hull will slowly bend.

We seem to have the problem of not getting round to selling the boats - currently have around 18 I think - we wrote out a list at the sailing club a couple of weeks ago.
Merlins (pre amalgamation)

Albacores
Bobbin
Firefly
Zoom
Laser
59er
plus two Zodiac inflatables
and I'm sure there's one I've forgotten to count!

Edit - forgotten boat was the Firefly!
