I'm not sure RS were going after 4000 / 3000 market specifically with the 500, instead I think it was more driven at the European feedback on the 200.
The 500 may be more expensive, but you also have a decent European market to sell in to, especially if selling in euros! The 500s have had a little revamp recently too... seems similar to what was done on the RS200 |

From what I can see, the 500 is similar to the 200 but with a trapeze for the crew.
Also looks a bit flatter inside as well. |

Not sure I'd say that, the 500 is 34cm longer, 25cm narrower and has roughly 50% more sail area than the 200 and a completely different underwater shape too (the 200 has much more rocker).

I agree with the suggestions so far given the narrow requirement, however I question the requirement. Where are you sailing? What other boats are popular there? Do you want to race or cruise?
If it is a small inland lake then a trapeze is unecessary and a symetric spinnaker may be more suitable, if you are racing on big courses on the sea then your requirement is spot on.

The European sailing markets skewed from its training scheme which pushes race training toward trapeze 2 person boats. The 500 seems to fit the exciting but not extreme need that they have.
They had 60 boats at the recent worlds. The 4000 is a cheap way in also, but much more powerful than the others. It can be raced at your weight with its excellent weight equalisation system. There is an active class, and there were a good number at the recent nationals. But I think finding a good one is hard. Depending on your water, I would consider a Fireball. But crew needs to be up to it. They have stubbornly refused to update the pole system so far. I would have one, but wife is scared of the power needed to get pole on sometimes. |

A bit off topic, perhaps, but Fireball poles... the rules state you may only have one, and - for now - it may not be carbon. Single ended poles are not uncommon and can be set easily and gybe almost as fast as the double ended system. I’ve also seen a standard pole set really well by a tiny crew, with the helm banging on the twinner as soon as the pole is on the mast. Finally, there’s the Sayce / Rees engineered solution that sets like a single ended, but gybes like a double. It’s really clever. Don’t let preconceptions put you off.

Will mainly be used in the Cleddau Estuary and in the sea around Pembrokeshire.. so room not really an issue. We want a fast fun boat that we can handle.. and possibly do some club racing in the future

If space isn't an issue the 500, 3000 or 4000 all fit the Bill.

In that case the RS500 sounds good
