They will be bringing sailing licences in next, no just rocking up at the beach and launching, Sailing clubs will have to have proof you have taken and passed some sort of course, RYA levels will dictate what you are allowed to sail and where, lake and river licences won't count for the sea.

Ha you may jest but the new rules at our lake state you have to have a level 2 sailing certificate to use the lake, that and tripling the membership fee has decimated the membership and the club is in peril of closure.

Wow, where's that happening? In the UK, are the rules imposed by an insurance company, a local authority or some other entity?

Redoubt Lake Hythe, a new owner or leaseholder, tripled the membership cost, then applied new rules presumably advised by a lawyer for risk avoidance or insurance against third party liability, I have no idea I'm trying not to get involved it's a nightmare. There's been sailing on that lake for forty years and now it's being priced and legislated off the water, back in the day I'd have phoned Edmund Whelan, but who do you call nowadays? Ghostbusters?

Last I heard the new owner who has purchased a new house from the recent development adjacent to the lake, doesn't like the orange colour of the rescue boat spoiling his view so has decided to fill in the breeding pool, to move the boat park and the rescue boat, that's the kind of person you would have to deal with, without being impolite, not something I'm capable of.

Sorry to read about the Redout sc luckily at Lee on Solent SC we have just been able to keep the fee's the same for another year and our membership has gone up by 70/80 in the last 3 years plus the compound is full.
Watch out anybody not using your boats as we need the space for active members.

What happens if you refuse to pay the excessive fees ? Rebel go back to original fee add on 2 years reasonable inflation and just pay that, let them take you to court, see if they like negative publicity, if you are going to be forced to disband anyway go out fighting, do a like for like fee comparison with other clubs.

There are two gates to get through to get access, they changed the lock and wouldn't issue new keys. It's part of the problem that we don't get many new members, that and the educationally sub normal ex nazi prison guard they use as a lake warden.

Surely the simple solution is the Laser to still be supplied equipment but offer a choice between LPE and PSA hulls?

Simpler still, World Sailing is governing body for sailing, they should be dictating what they want, Olympic committee tells WS they are invited to compete for x amount of medals, that's it, neither they or the EU can tell them what boat to choose or anything else.

They can't supply into each others territory because of they own the copyright on the laser trademark in that territory.

The simplest solution is to take all the branding requirements away.
