Not sure it would be allowed to make signing a waiver a condition of entry.

I think in a world where our data has been so freely abused by corporations, bad actors and those with malicious intent, it makes sense to take some precaution when any of us start publishing non-essential data about aspects of our lives that are very much in the personal and private space.

Would it be possible to lose out on a potential new job to another candidate because a quick google search of your name brings up your club race results showing you're a bit of lemon in a boat?  I think that's not entirely unfeasible.... especially if you are trying to demonstrate attributes of success and competitiveness in your life during the interview process.

Quite honestly, unless you were applying to run GCHQ, then I can't imagine prospective employee background checks would have delved into back issues of Yachts and Yachting in the past.  But that was then, not now and we all need to change habits or use basic security measures as a precaution.

It's so simple now to create a snapshot from someone's internet footprint - and this can be used for positive or negative affect.

Only the other day I heard of a mate who got a written warning about his time keeping - he was working from home, that was until his Strava profile showed exactly what he was up to during the core hours of his employment contract.  Silly boy....

which is why using old school internet handles still have some merit- despite Mark Zuckerberg's 'real name' policy on the platform that has destroyed forums.  LOL
