What have you or your club done to attract new or keep existing members ?

How successful has action been ?

Have you or your club done anything to aid elderly or infirm members continue sailing ?

At HISC the joining fee is either waived or refunded (subject to starting enough races over a given period) for those classes the club is keen to promote. That covers the attraction. Keeping is via well attended class racing. Given that 'my' fleet - Furball - has grown from single figures to 20+ in three years I think it has worked, BUT, and it is a significant BUT, it takes enthusiasm from within as well, then a critical mass becomes self fulfilling.

I can't talk about the elderly or infirm as I have no knowledge or info of what measures are in place.

For the latter we have a comprehensive Sailability programme, though we are still working on greater integration with the main club.

For the former, we run courses, have a parent run junior group (which brings in many new members and provides a good social scene) and various other things but could do more to get people racing. Still a bit of a divide.

We provided try sailing days for the new members, and showed them how to rig and use club boats. A few swimming members-and we now have a full membership and a considerable waiting list

Rupert,
I warned our Vice Commodore last week that our club was in danger of becoming a sailing club, racing almost non existent, last Thursday no one turned up at all.
This Saturday we had 14 boats racing, first time this year we have had double figures.
