Hull refinishing

   Has anyone ever had a hull professionally refinished?

By that I mean the gelcoat polished up to look like new, after scratches etc have been repaired?

An idea of rough cost would be good as I want to factor it in to a possible purchase

	If you have a MOP and the scratches have been repaired and smoothed out already then polishing doesn't take too long. I have my Blaze MOP'd after a reapir and it came out at about £150 on top of the repair cost (but bear in mind the boat was already on their bench, it may have been more if it was just in for that). You can get a reasonably cheap MOP that will do the job for not a lot of money these days so just buying the compounds.

	I bought a car type 'sander/polisher' and some Farecla G3 polishing compound from these guys http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/Gelcoat_Polishing.html cost was around £80 all in. My yellow Spice was suffering from the effects of several years use and abuse. Polishing the milkiness from the gel coat was not too hard and while I haven't ended up with showroom condition (will probably do it again in the spring) it does look very much better (it is a 16 year old boat). The Blaze is next for the treatment.......

	How big is the hull and how scratched is it? If you close your eyes and drag your finger nails across, anything that your nails pick up won't just polish out. Papering up through the grades is labour intensive, if they have to be filled then the colour match has to be satisfactory. IMO a forum price would be pointless, you could be anywhere between a couple of hours and a couple of days.

	If a boat costs hundreds, then it has to be diy. If talking thousands, it would be worth talking to someone who does such things professionally to get a quote.
