Committee boats

What do different clubs use for committee boats? There appears to be a huge range from starting off the shore (and no c'ttee boat), to old fishing vessels to £50k 30ft catamarans (ran by medium sized clubs!). 

We are an estuary club and currently use a 16' dory type vessel which is just adequate but quite unpleasant in inclement weather. 

What can people recommend? We keep the boat in a marina so launch/ recovery not a bid deal. Outboard preferred due to ease of maintenance. Budget errr good question - maybe £5-10k.

	We have a relatively shallow draft workboat with an inboard engine that doubles up as a committee boat and weed removal boat. It has a cabin built on to it which give some shelter but increases windage a lot.

	We often use a member's Mitchell 23 ... But if you had a relatively open budget I would consider one of the smaller Colne Catz, super stable, nice working deck, out board that members can understand, and the ability to get to the race area pretty quickly.

	Anything from a RIB to a 60ft Oyster. Lochin 40 is my favourite. Plenty of power, plenty of space to work and great bacon sandwiches. But arm twisting a yacht owner is fairly common. Sometimes a committee boat start and a shoreline finish is a good compromise, depends on the event.

	Power anchor windlass and Fortress anchor would be high on my priorities, obviously a mast for signals (high enough for clear sight for the competitors), with a good, preferably elevated sightline at the main mast, also a covered wheelhouse for all persons, a loo and somewhere to cook the bacon sandwiches ... always good to have the smell of cooking bacon wafting down the start line.

	The RYA Race Officials newsletters over the years have a mass of information about Race Committee vessels. Have a talk to someone on your regional Race Officer's committee. You could maybe retry your question in the Race Management forum. Edited by Brass - 05 Oct 16 at 2:34pm

	what is the best as a commtittee boat depends on the water and to an extent style of racing
