Hello all,
In 1999 whilst serving in the British army I completed a weeks competent crew and a month later a day skipper course, which I should never of been on and didn't pass although I completed all the piratical elements. I really enjoyed the time on the water and at the time of the course I was told to buy a dinghy on return to my unit and start a life long love affair with the sea. Well unfortunately back then, at 19 I was more pre-occupied with beer and women. Well, now at 36 I bought my first boat, a torch dinghy from ebay. I've rigged (if that is the term?) it on my drive but am gagging to get on the water with it. But I'm a little apprehensive about going out on my lonesome in case I end up getting myself in bother. I'm lucky enough to live just outside Christchurch in Dorset so have an abundance of clubs around me but and not one to join a club without knowing if I'll enjoy being part of it first. So, here is the reason for my post, Is there anyone here who lives locally and fancys a trip out with a not quite complete novice but very much new learner. I'm a nice guy, honestly and really want to make sailing the new hobby to last me. Just could do with a mentor to get me up and running.

You could visit the clubs and see what you think or try talking to Hengistbury Head activity centre about a session there with an instructor.

The "clubs" section of the main site should give you plenty of info. Go visit the one in Christchurch on a sailing day and get chatting to people. You might even be able to arrange to go sailing while you are there.

I used to live in Boscombe and I joined Highcliffe SC to sail my Laser, you could do a lot worse than joining there.
