Currently giving a Laser 2 some love and attention.
Something that's bothered me is the lack of a breath hole in the hull. If I go out in cloudy cold conditions and the weather warms up, when I take the bung out it goes PPfffffffff for 3 or 4 seconds. It seems like an awful lot of pressure builds up . While this does reassure me the boat has no leaks does the panel think the boat needs a small hole somewhere? |

No........the boat appears to have had a hooligan free life, is in serious (as in seriously serious) good nick and still wins every now and then.

Well, its lasted a long time with no breather and still keeps airtight, but I put a breather in all my boats these days. Nothing about your boat is getting any stronger, and I believe there were one or two nasty incidents with Moths.

I usually put mine around the mast step. I try and work out a place where they are least likely ever to be immersed. If you're keen then a loop of plastic tube so some part is always above water would be perfection.

I don't know if Laser currently put breather holes in the hull, they certainly didin't used to and I've owned many Lasers over the years. All of them get pressurised in the sun and the puff of air as you take the bung out confirms the hull's leaktight.

All my Lasers since 1977 have had breather holes, under the toestrap, behind the mainsheet block. Don't know when they were first drilled in. Remember hearing that a few popped in the tropics in the v. early days, but that could be mere folklore.
