Dunno anything about the fibre, but who knew there was an Open 16 class?

I know I wouldn't touch a Jamie Lynn Phoenix .... but that's no reason to dismiss the material science in its construction.

Looks like it would be better off with a Mini Transat style spoon bow.

Basalt looks to have, at best, only the properties of S-glass, which doesn't compare that well against carbon. The density lets it down as it is much denser than carbon (2.8vs 1.8), this stuffs the specific properties (strength and stiffness vs weight) which is what is important in marine structures.

2.8 is poor versus e-glass... all the glass fibre we use in our prepregs is e-glass, it's the standard used for industrial, wind, even aerospace (glass is used eg for nose cones). Basalt isn't something we're showing any interest in.
