Thinking of a new drysuit. Having experienced the non breathing ability of (cheaper) breathable types, either I'm a terribly sweaty geezer Dead or they just don't work, was gonna go for the Hammond non breathable version anyway that they reckon will outlast any breathable type, & also go for ankle cuffs so no latex boots to perish. Hot socks n boots being the footwear of choice. At £400 a serious bit of kit investment so wanna make the best decision. Yes, I guess I could spend a similar amount & get a Musto breathable, but do they actually breathe - & last a few years?? Your opinions & experiences ladies & gents please! Oh yes ....why does GRF call them Death bags?

Because if you don't evacuate enough air and then fall in head first all the air goes to your feet and you are stuck head down underwater.

This is not an urban/sailing myth, my wife was in the Navy and has seen it demonstrated.

I had a breathable and it didn't last - seams leaked I think. I now have a Hammond drysuit (if only for the joy of having the name as it's my surname too) and as I am tall but not too wide, it fits really really well - a standard XXL is for a big fat b**tard.

I have heard that a breathable will take most of the sting out of a fart, osmosis or something. Nothing more embarrassing than asking someone to unzip you when you've been digesting a Ruby and Guinness.

Any scuba instructor will be able to advise you how to right yourself when the air goes to your feet/socks of your DS. That said, check out the new winter steamers, far harder to rip, v.warm and much cheaper.

Hammond drysuits last forever. Well, they used to - I can't comment on the new ones because I am unable to justify throwing the old one away...

I have just bought a Gill Pro suit.  Prior to this I always bought Typhoon, but I'm fed up of them starting to leak really quickly, especially through the Goretex feet.  To be fair, my suits get a lot of use as I sail, coach and powerboat several days a week, even in winter, but I find expect the Typhoon suit to last more than one season and it didn't, nor did the one before that.
the same, but different...
