Individual Recall

   The majority of individual recalls at WSC are made on account of boats arriving late and making their way to the start from the course side or indeed still rigging in the water off the beach!
Unfortunately, however, the starters proper are generally unaware if the recall concerns themselves or a late-comer (maybe hidden in the moorings), so most recalls involve either an unnecessary return of a clean starter or at least a lot of cursing and loss of composure aboard the best starter's boat.  Hardly right and fair.

It is difficult to see how to improve this situation, as the late-comers are indeed OCS so can't be ignored.  I'm wondering, however, if we couldn't distinguish by simply omitting the sound signal if it is only them who have to sail to the starting side of the line rather than the starters proper.  The individual recall flag would always be flown, of course.

We could amend the club SI's to that effect and publicize in the magazine.

Am I missing any potential problems?

	Is there any need to signal a recall for boats that have not yet come to the starting area? I suggest not: especially on the sea for all you know they are out for a cruise around.

	WSC's start line runs off the beach, so it's a a bit more tricky than on open water. Edit: plus, of course, they will usually have remembered to sign on, so the race team could be siad to be 'aware'! Edited by Medway Maniac - 20 Aug 14 at 4:50pm
