So the nice thing with the D-Zero right way up is that all the spars, foils and sail stay in the boat

In the 80s I only travelled to Laser events from home, didn't keep the boat at a club. I used a cocoon cover to keep the entire boat covered in one, very convenient, sealed boat, no straps, no flapping on the motorway. I think it was made by Alpha Sails who are no longer in business, but shouldn't be too difficult to have one made. I guess the only down side is that if the event is more than one day you still require a top cover to throw over the boat overnight, but for storage at home and travelling the cocoon cover was great. Would they stay in the boat if you turned it upside down though! They look small enough that they would fit inside a decent size car anyway so that's pretty nice design thinking - that was always the transport problem with a laser is you needed a big car to get the top mast inside. |

We did this all the time with Finns on Al's Transit, but it did have high capacity roof bars. One on top and two at the back is great for European events as two then get to fly down and overall it's much cheaper than chartering (plus you've got your own boat). However, you do need a few lardy Finn types to get it up top ![]() |

The Utalians frequently put their D Ones right way up on the roof. Having seen the D Zero Iwould roof rack it right way up.
I've taken a 470 right way up acrossEurope on the roof of a Ford Orion. Company car, so no tow hitch and stupid boot size. Edited by winging it - 01 Jun 14 at 11:47am |
