Ah, okay. Cheers and thanks for the clarification. 'Tis a nice little boat; I wish there was a way to get classes to work together instead of against each other. I sometimes wonder whether the Byte (or the similar Oz Spiral/Japanese Seahopper(?)/Splash/etc) could have been designed to form part of an Opti/Byte/Laser integration. Cooperation would surely be better than competition. |

Considering the closeness of the 2 boats in terms of design heritage, it is a pity that they weren't from the same stable - we might then have had the Byte as the feeder boat for the Laser the world over, and the 4.7 would never have been needed.
However, that will never happen now. And if it had, the CII rig would never have existed - it would have been about as likely as the Laser doing it. RS would appear to have a similar route, now, with the Tera, and then 3 Aero rig sizes. Get them involved with a brand when young, then you can keep them. I can see Tera sailors aspiring to the Aero, and I'd say it is good for the sport on the whole. |
