Officially the "most dangerous boat on the lake" at my club - being fast, very heavy and happy to carry on sailing when everyone has fallen out!  In my laser days I had one swipe my stern, ripping the bridle clean off the boat.  I don't think it even slowed down!

Presumably Medway's proposed K-3 would be a tad lighter.

The Tempest is a big man’s boat, and I suspect that the K2 will prove to be likewise.

My hope for the K3 was something much lighter than the Tempest, racier-looking than the K2, that could be competitive with a 120kg crew. I’m dreaming, of course...

Nick A has a good point @ 6.50. Most dangerous boat........................

There is an unforeseen consequence of ballasted and some multihulls that are seen as safe options. Some inexperienced people get them and then because they see them as safe sail them in conditions that are way beyond their competence. The result being a boat roaring about being a danger to others and then if it does eventually go wrong it goes wrong big style.

A "normal" dinghy is to an extent self limiting in that the higher performance and the stronger the wind the sooner they fall over. This "saves" those lacking in competence by making them wary to go out or encouraging them the retire early in difficult conditions.

An alternative view and perhaps I am slightly bigoted due to being hit more than once by out of control examples and had to rescue the same.

Try sailing on waters frequented by Dragons and cruisers - a Tempest is small fry, while a K2 would be a pussy, by comparison - it’s only 3/4 the weight of a Wayfarer!

Hit a dragon and you'd want to make sure it wasn't your fault!

GRP = £48,000
GRP with teak inlays= £56,000
GRP with wooden deck = £65,000
Cold Moulded = you need to ask sir?

Happily we don't have such things in the cold and poverty stricken North.  We do have 24ft cruisers, but, they're so slow you just sail around them.

We did hit a Dragon in the Wayfarer once, our fault.

Nasty gunwale damage on the W., but I don't think the Dragon even noticed.  Just span us round and sailed on, I was going to say much as Godfrey in Dad's Army might have, but actually, Dragon sailors aren't like that at all in my experience - b*st*rds!
