There seems to be some interesting stuff going down in the cycling world, with the famously sensitive and sensible UCI* doing a bit of "spring cleaning".

In the UK, this particularly affects Time Trialers (governed by CTT), oldies doing all sorts of racing (LVRC) and anyone taking part in TLI races (they do anything but track), as only British Cycing are UCI affiliated. Of course, it doesn't affect anyone who SOLELY races under those jursidictions- only those that also wish to compete under BC/UCI auspices.

Until I read about this, mind, I wasn't aware of LVRC or TLI, and thought that CTT was also UCI affliated. You learn. 

Anyway, is there some sort of parallel to the RYA that I'm not aware of? Does someone other ISAF produce a set of rules of racing? Sydney 18ftrs perhaps?


Of course, ISAF doesn't require "licences", just membership of a member national authority or an organisation affiliated to one- in most of our cases that's our club membership. However some MNAs do - FFV, the French lot, have a "racing licence" system that even requires a doctor's certificate to say you're healthy enough to race!

I've not seen anything in the RRS or elsewhere to suggest that racing outside their system is in anyway a breach of their rules. Is this basically because it doesn't happen and hasn't ever really been a thing as such?






*I of course jest- the UCI make ISAF look very well run, transparent and sane. UCI are frankly only outdone by the IOC and FIFA.

Well there's the complicated situation with the International Canoes, because we come under the International Canoe Federation, and primarily use the International Canoe Federation Canoe Sailing Competition Rules, although we use the ISAF RRS on the water. I shouldn't be suprised if there were places where the off water aspects of the ISAF RRS conflict with the ICF ones, but not, I think anything in normal circumstances.

Ah yes, i'd forgotten about you crazy canoeists, but that doesn't seem to cause any friction between the governing bodies..
 
From reading up, it appears there's quite a few counties where the UCI-afflicated governing body only runs the National Championships in some disciplines, and in no way supports the grass roots in those disciplines. All rather complex. I'm glad we don't have the beauracracy of having racing licences...

dissapointed, I thought this might be a thread sharing tales of "sticking it to the man" by sailing on resevoirs normally closed to the public or exceeding harbour/river speed limits and local bylaws under sail power alone, perhaps sailing in 'inappropriate' attire or even, push-the-boat-out, of sneeking women into the RYS members bar..... alas no.

I have done this on the upper part of Southampton water after the Hythe pier as its only a 6 knot limit from there on. I have seen the police and harbour master having words with the jet skiers and power boats but I'm not sure if it does apply to sail power.

The Bermuda Fitted Dinghies use a different set of rules. I think they differ in several ways, but the main one I can think of now is that you don't have to finish with the same number of crew on board, so people can jump off if the wind goes light.
