The Firefly does similar. It does look like an area where the Laser CA could get involved and procure discount for their members. For all I know, they do already, mind. If the discount on a new sail (because the CA has buying power, and passes it on) was, say, £100, it would encourge CA membership and reduce the number of replica sails out there.

Isn't that what it's supposed to be?

+1 ... and clubs that don't take a firm attitude had better be damn confident that that they can maintain a healthy P&L from the sailors they've got left or who they can attract with an alleged, superior quality of racing.

Im pressed rounded off corner patches that said if they built the standard sail out of decent cloth then they would last fine too

This sail has been ready for the market for at least 2 years that I am aware of. The arguments between the parties are what has held it back.

Naturally Hyde (who developed the sail) are keen to get some ROI so this may have tipped the balance. Either that or they had a massive run done in anticipation of the sail gaining approval and they have been sat around in a warehouse ever since.....
