I thought we could do with a thread for talking about things that caught your eye recently. Sort of a poor man's Spy Photo thread.

Yesterday, out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw a Topper boom with a brushed aluminium finish, which looked very neat. Is it durable?. Did I imagine it?

There was also a K1 with a new sail plan from North, which had a small square head on the main. Looked very nice but surely needs to be accompanied by a PY shift if they are class legal

I also saw an Arup Cherub and Jack Sparrow’s/Jimbo’s old Rogue Cherub blasting about, which was good to see.

the new topper spars have that finish now.  It looks very smart, but no idea how long it will last

Toby, I'm guessing that was down at Chew?

The green Cherub that took part in the ISAF trials is sailed at Chew and at Thornbury. It isn't actually an Arup Cherub but an E6 which was going to be the basis for the ARUP Skiff. The closest thing to an ARUP skiff is Roland & Hayley Trims E6 Evo Cherub, in which Roland (who works for ARUP), designed a new bulkhead and deck arrangement and resulted in steeply angled wings (much higher than existing Cherubs). I think the boat has real potential and I really like the higher wings and the White paint job with driver & co-driver name stickers. As for Jimbos old Cherub that is now sailing down at Chew I believe and is going rather well.

Ah, thanks for that. They looked good.
Glad I didn't imagine that Topper boom, I thought it looked the bee's knee's!

I have a Topper boom dating back to when the boats were still made in GRP which has a brushed Ali look to it. What goes around, comes around. Mind you, it was stupidly thin - at least they bend a little less now.

Good to hear it's being sailed, I looked for it in the results of the recent nationals and it didn't appear to have finished a race.

Anyway, down the club.... A TOY 2000 for sale, bargain price (want a trap boat Rupert?)

Tiz tempting... however, I'm trying to keep the number of boats in single figures, and the kids worked out we are on 9, now...

I like, "the kids worked out we are on 9 now". It really is so hard to count is'nt it. Complete boats are easy but.....we have, spare byte hull, half a byte classic rig, various bits of Taser (as well as complete boat), one and a half Contenders, two and a half Lightnings.......it goes on. How many boats?

Well, now I know that Hunts is hosting the CVRDA Nationals next year I am putting an embargo on old boat sales so I can get all my qualifiers on the water at once.  Eligible are my kestrel, cherub, moth x 2, ToY (not the trap version and unless Ian buys it) i14.  That just leaves the contender and the megabyte ineligible!  I wonder if I could 'distress' jaws so he looks older?
