if the orginisers are asking questions that are -in your opinion - not required don`t enter the info or write N/A & if the entry can`t be processed then don`t do the race.

Trouble is, if clubs decide they want the lot (typical thinking: "why not ask for everything?"), and you want to enter, you're stuck.  Or, you can do as I did and enter fictitious data and then delete it on the form you sign   Smile

Any other 'work arounds' we can use to get our entries in?

SailRacer handles online entry for many sailing events,  processing over 70,000 entries.

The questions on the entry form can be tailored to the event and things like medical details turned on/off,  and/or linked to age of competitor etc which is why you may have seen DOB questions.  The event organiser can request what questions they want completed,  eg an entry form for a Yacht race will look different to that of a dinghy event.

I've assumed the date of birth is for Junior/Master divisions.
Date of birth is often not that hard to find out, so why so many companies place a high regard on it for identity purposes I don't know.
But I don't know that I like the way sailracer collates data about people then makes it publicly accessible. Who are they anyway?

Has anyone else used the Sailracer on-line entry system, and been bothered by the requirement (if you want to enter at all) to give yours and your crew's dates of birth?  This is especially a tricky issue if you have a female crew of over 30!

Till now, entry forms I've encountered have only required to know your date of birth if you are under 18, which is reasonable as all sorts of safety and guardian issues arise for youngsters.  But Sailracer wants to know whatever your age, and then goes on to demand all sorts of normally confidential medical information.

Quite aside from issues of personal sensitivity, we now live in a world where identity theft is rife, and I for one am reluctant to dish out my details to every Tom, Dick & Harry who asks 'just because they can'.

Does Sailracer need to think again?
