On the Medway its been one of the better years for wind.

The last couple of years its been either to much or to little but this year its been strong but sailable more often than not.

I guess we must be the lucky ones then. (we've got a perfectly nice 14knts forecast again this weekend)

The wind has been coming from "interesting" directions this year. (i.e. not predominantly SW / W). So much so that the commodore at our club is in danger of losing his position at the next AGM. We hold him personally responsible. The man needs to get his act together.

I believe there's a broad tendency for weather systems to come in at 7 day intervals at our latitude, so that sort of pattern isn't very suprising.

We had a family joining in July, with the dad being keen to sail but very much of a novice, and the boy keen on kayaking. In August, we received an email retracting their membership because it had been too windy to sail over the previous 4 weeks.

He wasn't blaming the commodore though! LOL

Good grief !!  You are a Saint (as well as a commodore) Isabelle. I hope you kept 6 months worth of his membership for bare faced cheek and being a nancy boy.

I was wondering same with smaller 6 rig..if its 25+knots smaller sail would be faster upwind and make gybes more predictable...but the caveman in me say big sail and hang out the gusts :)
