Morning all,

So come on then who was mad enough to sail this weekend and enjoy the lovely squalls and hail showers?

I was out getting nicely exfoliated by the hail (not to be recommended I am told)...

I was out 505 sailing because it was too ballistic for the 49er. Our grin factor was right off the scale due to us using the big kite and having 130kg boat almost leaping wave to wave. Major gusts, squalls and short sharp chop with us up in sunny Helensburgh on top of a constant 5.

I was team racing laser 2's - great fun, but you're not
allowed trapezes in team racing so we were
massively overpowered. didn't capsize once tho, and
we won!! the trouble with laser 2s in a chop is that
the spinny chute acts as a big water scoop everytime
you bury the bow a bit...

This may be a silly question, but if you are not allowed to use trapeze for team racing why use a boat designed for people trapeze on? especially laser 2's which are not really big enough up front to accommodate the bigger person to compensate for the absence of trapeze crew righting moment.

Fair few out at Grafham in various boats.  4 fast cats out (few more slow cats).  One pitchpole (Inter 17 with the kite up - Not me ).  2 Shadows and myself, jolly good fun and grin factor 11.  Force 4-5 gusting 7.

Some VERY hairy moments - My boat was playing submarine a fair amount and a couple of gybes were done (in parts) with both rudders out of the water

One advantage of a good start in these conditions is that you can ease off a little (until some other bugger starts driving hard with the kite up  and you have to do the same)

We had a social member come over from Grafham. He said only the nutcases were out! (but then again he sails a FlyingFiteen......)

We had an Enterprise open...imagine the carnage when that squall came through at 2pm......

It was not that windy.  as I said above top of 7 in the gusts.  I'm guessing but there were around 50 boats out.  We had a very large squal come thru when I was trying to gybe (the first time) with 2 rudders in the air, and the second one came thru and pushed be 100 yards below the bottom mark (we do uphill downhill) in one gybe !  It was not so much the wind strength but the 20 degree shifts that game with them - 20 degree lift with the kite up in that much wind is not funny

I REALY wanted to be sailing this weekend but noooooooo i had to revise  and my sis got to sail at Rutland, now that would have been fun  All I got to do ws sit at home listening to the wind and dream of being out there.
