Does anyone know what is the assumed barometric pressure used for calculating tidal predictions?

As far as I know it is 1017mb but is this figure used worldwide or locally?

Interesting question to which I don't have the answer. Try asking on uk.rec.sailing, which is more of a yottie forum.

The average barometric pressure used in the UK is 1013mb. (Thanks to the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office for the answer).

It would seem logical that different average pressures would apply in different areas around the world as some places must sit under high pressure for long periods and others low pressure systems.

If you need more info on tidal prediction check out www.ukho.gov.uk they offer a range of products and services and are amazingly helpful.

I also found 1013 to be average barometric pressure although I did not notice it said this was for UK only. However I do not think this is used for calculating tidal heights. I did find a site that stated it was 1017mb but again was not specific. I imagine as you do different pressures will be used in different parts of the world as the basis for the calculations. I just need to know some specifics.
