Just read the latest report and all seems to be ok so far but still no headline sponsor.
How much money are team Sponsors going to plough into this series that
can't even maintain an overall series sponsor? Plenty of teams have come
and gone rather quickly, like where the hell is basilica these days?
Is it all destined to fade away within the next year or so?

Bit harsh mate - the series only finished on the 12/10. Ishares was bought by a firm of VC's a little earlier in the year and of course they're alway going to review sponsorship commitments following a take-over. IF you read the article on the website then it would appear ishares new owners activated a break-clause, and since then  OC events (series owners) have committed to the 2010 series, commenced looking for new sponsors, run the event in asia and revamped the website and probably a whole lot more.

If there's anyone that can get the reqiured sponsors then I'd imagine it would be OC events - they definitely seem to be very switched on about marketing sailing, but it's really tough times and companies are cutting budgets left right and centre.

I know that Barclays Global Investors(Ishares previous parent) considered it their most succesful sponsorship ever with more front page pics etc. And to correct you, Ishares have been bought by BlackRock now one of the world's largest investment management companies and not a VC.
