Which one (again)

   I am sure this comes up many times. What boat should I buy.?
I am after a boat to have fun in...Not race.
I want to be able to sail single handed with an ocasional crew. I must be able to handle the boat ashore as well as afloat.
I am about 16 stone. Have sailed lots of different boats in most conditions.
I have thought about these...
Vago....it is plastic and heavy..
Vareo....no trapeze
Vortex....would I every sell it again ? Would I fit a small crew onboard.
Vibe.....seems a bit slow. and plastic
Phantom.....would like a spinnaker and no crew room
I have also thought about a small cat but this boat would need to fit in my garage.
Thanks in advance for any advise.....

	Vago isn't too heavy and Im 60KG and sail it solo and crewed. Yes its plastic but for a plastic boat its not half bad. Its a good laugh

	Vortex - cheapest on the list fastest on the list most stable on the list Most manageable in a breeze on the list definately the most fun down wind on the list (i kept up with a musto skiff once) and can take a small crew if you want (although at 16 stone you definately wont need one. im 10 stone and i managed fine) resale is a problem but if you buy a cheap one it will barely go down in value plus it is the same size as any normal boat, its just square. its no wider than a vago

	Vareo. Your'e a good size for going upwind when it blows, & when you turn to go down hill with the kite - hang on to your hat! BRILL! recomend it.

	Dons right if you want a boat you can take a crew every now and then buy the vareo a mate of mine in our club is 15.5 stone and he goes like stink upwind in one and flys going down he also takes his wife out every now and then plus they do seem to hold there value quite well the cheapest i have seen one is for 1995 going all the way up to new price about 5,000 i think rupert on the forum has one for sale at the moment. plus you can get it in your garage mine is in my garage now and i think that was built for a mini Edited by Rockhopper

	Hi Paul, Some thoughts on your choices: Vago....it is plastic and heavy.. But seems to fit the bill very well, e.g. trapeze & kite. Vareo....no trapeze Good fun, but our Vareo sailors can't see how (or why) you'd fit a crew in. Vortex....would I every sell it again ? Would I fit a small crew onboard. Cheap, as mentioned before. It would need to be really windy with you + crew to go at an appreciable speed. Vibe.....seems a bit slow. and plastic Don't. Just don't. Does the same job as the Vago, but worse. Much worse. Which pretty much puts paid to any cat, unless you want to spend ages dismantelling/rebuilding a Dart each year... I'm sure that others on here will offer alternatives to muddy the waters some more! But from my point of view, I'd say that the Vago is a good option for you.

	The boat will mainly kept at home (in the garage) and sailed at Rutland, But I will take it on the sea when on holiday. (Studland) My kids and wife mess about in our Topper and we may go out with both boats. I would probally have one of my kids with me ( 9/11 ) I have just sold my Wayfarer and now want some thing a bit scary ! I have UPTO £4000 to spend for the complete kit. I good Vortex has just come on the market for £1200 without spinnnaker kit. How much would a full spinnaker kit cost.?

	Your budget & requirements seem to really fit a used Vareo. Yes, it can be a little tight avoiding the kicker for another person on board, but a nipper will manage easy. And....you'll sure have fun downwind in a breeze!
