Someone wants to borrow/ rent/ charter my dinghy for an event. I'm trying to get suitable insurance- as I may look to do the same again in future to ofset some running costs. Speaking to a few insurance companies they all say no we don't cover for that. Someone must? I appreciate a lot of you will be thinking 'turn a blind eye etc' but I want it done by the book- even if the insurance is only for 3rd party damage/ liability etc...

I can remember when I borrowed a Dart 18 for the student nationals back in 1997 that the only way I could get insurance was to take out a full policy and then cancel it after the event. They then returned a percentage of the premium back.
Dont know how it would work now, as many policies exist that enable others to sail your boat as long as they have your permission. |

All of Noble Marine's policies, in common with the majority (but not all) of other insurers' policies, do enable anyone to borrow the insured boat with the policyholder's permission, but would exclude cover if the boat is let out for hire or charter.
If it's a one-off, then speak to your insurers as I imagine that they would agree to extend cover for long-standing customers, although an additional premium may be charged. Jon |
