I reckon they could perhaps knock off a couple of days but they would need to be very lucky with the weather and have no equipment failures.

They can already outrun weather systems so what will happen if they consistently sail faster than the weather and sail right through the systems?

In other words is it possible to go much faster?

40 days in and only 3800 miles to go - they could do sub 50 days. That will be amazing and very difficult to beat.

They have not had any major calm periods and apart from the whales they have not had any major problems. So I don't see how someone can go faster.

So what happens to a whale when it is hit up a giant multi doing 30 knots?

I wish the Orange team all the luck in the world - they are going to need it. It is great to see records being broken.

Maybe Ellen will have another go at the crewed record in the future. How fast could she get round in B&Q with a small crew of say 2 or 3?

But the Orange boys are flying so perhaps a sub 55days might be possible.

If they do then I think that record will take a hell of a lot to beat and it will stand for a long time.

Sorry Phil but Steve Fossett has already broken the 60 day record, here is the record as taken from Steve's website

"Round the World - 58d 9h 32m 45s - Feb-April 2004"

I can't help thinking the orange boys have had it almost too good, they are on to be the first boat inside 60 days, something has got to go wrong (i really hope not, but law of averages and all that)

Steve Fossett refused to pay the entry fee for the Jules Verne, he then went on and set the absolute record.

Olivier de Kersauson then followed him in outside of Steve's time but inside the time of the previous JV record. Olivier then claimed the JV Trophy which was by this time worthless as the only record worth having is the absolute.

For those of us that can't remember what's the difference between the absolute and Jules Verne routes?
