Just following on from the Laser question, my Moth has sprung quite a serious leak from the daggerboard case. Has anyone used Sikaflex for such a repair, I was going to use epoxy/microballoons but I'm guessing the damage has arisen from six months of high speed crashes from three feet in the air, so using something like Sikaflex with a bit of give in it might prevent any further damage in the future |

I would use epoxy as with a silicon sealent the problem will probaly just get worse if there is any load on the repair.

I wouldn't consider asking anywhere else than the Moth forum! Get thee hence. You can probably even find someone who knows the boat and how it was put together...

Agree with Jim; go ask those that may have done it before. However, I've just redone one of my dagger slots as it had come away slightly done one side. 1, open up the gap with a screw driver. Clean out with a hack saw 2, Clean out carefully; I used a blade with cloth wrapped around and then "scrubbed" all the gunk out; then cleaned with acetone 3, opened up the gap as wide as I dared and then mixed up some epoxy and chopped strand 4, pushed a load of the epoxy / chopped strand "gunk" into the gap and then removed the screw drivers from each end, made sure loads was spread around then then 5, Pushed the handles of the screw drivers back in to push the sides back together; also put the handles of some spring clamps I have in to make sure it was pushed in really well. I'd guess your slots are much smaller than mine and so you might have problems with thay method. Ask the Moth guys ! |
