i have sourced a fixed rudder blade for the international 14 that a few freinds and myself have bought. however a fixed blade is not ideal were i sail, shallow with shingle banks and a difficult harbour to get into/out of. because of this i want to turn the blade into either a swinging one or a dagger blade like a musto. do you have any advice on which will be easiest and how i should go about about converting it? i will put some pics up of the blade tommorow if those will help.
600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.
Also International 14, 1318

A Dagger blade is usually better. If a pivoting blade comes up a bit at 14 speed something will break. However it needs to be the same section for about 75% of the blade length, otherwise a dagger stock won't work. For how-to on a dagger stock see here... http://www.sailingsource.com/cherub/rudstock.htm

My Finn rudder looks like it has been converted from a fixed one. It looks like appropriate cutting to separate the blade and head, then a couple of carbon/foam (I think there's a foam core) cheeks are attached to either side of the head. I think the critical part is the shaping of the top of the blade and the 'head' section.

the top part of the rudder blade is rectangular in section so i think im going to have to make a swinging case. Any tips on this?

Same as Oly,

Get an old ruddr stock that fits on the pintles of the 14, then draw round the top of the lifting blade on your fixed blade then just simply cut it out, make sure you drill the hole in the right place (USE SAME PRINCIPLE AS ABOVE)  thats it really! I wouldn't  make a dagger board style rudder, i tried recently and it was more work then its worth in the end i just made a pivoting stock!
