What sort of pump do people use to do small peices of vacuum bagging? I would like to have a go at producing some deck support that would be about 100cm by 20cm.

You could just put it between two flat bits of wood covered
in parcel tape and compress it with weight. That has got to be cheaper than
buying a pump and the bag. |

Just remember to put the pump back in the fridge before you put any food in there ...
And dont do it to a new fridge either, I think " I was vacumbagging carbon " will work as an excuse when you take it back to the shop with a burnt out motor! |

I dont want to make flat plates. As I understand it one of the advantages of VB is reducing the excess resin and so increasing the fibre volume fraction, not sure that woden plates would help and what would stop the wood sticking to the component.

You really need a proper vac pump designed for the job - Fridge motors are designed to have some flow...
With small jobs you can go a long way towards by using peel pluy and wooden jigs, cramps or even wrapping PVC tape. As Ross says parcel tape is invaluable to make thing non stick. I wouldn't recon duct tape to be a substitute... |
