I need to do a small amount of epoxying, and am then probably not going to use the materials for a while. I see SP's "Handi Pack" comes with pump dispensers, but do these last a fair time i.e. if I come back to them after 6 months are they going to be unusable - if so then I figure might as well use the tried-and-tested pot+stick method. Any experiences with the pumps? Edited by ColH |

Well you will still need to mix it in a pot with a stick if you use the handipack or not. Get 2 syringes and measure out the quantities with those, it's probably a cheaper way of doing it.

Sounds like its ideal for that job then. You just need to make sure you dont get the resin and hardner mixed on the pumps themselves, because then they will never work again! |

I've had mine for a few years and it still works ok (possibly a bit over it's shelflife to be honest...)

For non-aerospace use, two part epoxy has pretty damn good shelf life. The hardener is the part which does go a bit, though as long as you close the pot/tube/whatever properly carbonation will be minimised.
Pro tips: adding more than the stated hardener doesn't set it much quicker, but does result in a much worse properties- most especially, reduced water resistance due to the unreacted amine groups, but also immediate mechanical strength. And always wear disposable gloves. |

We take the pumps out and put the original lids back on the bottles, then wrap the ends of the pumps in clingfilm, it works pretty well.

I just leave the pumps in and keep them in a cool dark place, never had a problem although you have to reprime the pumps before using them to measure.

They do say in the instructions to stick a screw up the end of the pump.. My problem is I don't use that much epoxy..
