Can anyone recommend a suitable hat for dinghy sailing in the med, during the summer ? I am pretty bald and burn easily so need to wear something. Baseball hats are crap coz they blow off due to the broad rim and while I do see people with beanies they just look too hot for July / Aug. Is there anything suitable on the market that someone can recommend ?

Surely some form of large sombrero is what you need? Impractical maby, but tie it in with a poncho and you've just revolutionised sailing fashion.

I sail in a baseball cap and never have a problem with it blowing of, just tighten it up a bit.

Someone offline who has had similar problems with baseball caps has suggested a traditional cycling hat which they have found to work. Apparently with its smaller peak it won't get blown off easily. The sort of hat shown in the attached, they also do them with a neck cover. They are not expensive so will give one a try.

I sail in a cap in the summer (tied to my harness via a bit of bstrinf).
I use it as an "ease off indicator" - If it blows off downwind, it's time to ease off before the rudders "let go". |

You could get a Buff.... they can be arranged into many a different array of headgear.
