I was flicking through a few old bits of sailing literature the other day and
spied a Dart 6000 designed by Jo Richard's.

I can't remember ever seeing one around.

Is it the seemingly repetitive Jo Richard's effect? Great boat in just the
right conditions but didn't catch on, or what?

From the pics they looked like a lot of fun. With an early wave piercing
hull design and pole-less kite system.

6000 was around before the Dart Hawk.  The 6000 was a cracking boat (in the right hands) as it got a bit de-tuned in all the wrong areas (should have had Dagger boards IMO) but they were great fun.  Sailed one in a good F6 at grafham years ago, and with the kite up, the rescue boats could not keep up - until we put both bows and the front beam into a wave -  But we did not swim !

I think Dart decided it just was not going to sell so built the Hawk instead.

Not sailed one, but I understand it was a boat that was great to sail if you were a good cat sailor.  If not then it would punish you so not the ideal boat for the club sailor.

As I remember they had a main but no jib and a few GW sailors bought them but the crews got a bit fed up and moved onto Hawks.  There was an attempt to launch a circuit for Tv  a couple of years ago but it came to nothing. I know where some hulls are but not seen one sailed over the past five years or so.

here's the brochure....

funny isn't it de rigeur for the crew to do the main sheet these days on F18's? And doesn't the Stealth F18 have no jib? Seems it may of been ahead of it's time?

THe Stealth F18 has not been built yet.  You will be thinking of the Stealth F18HT - differenet design for a much lighter boat with just main and Kite - never took off, there are a few scattered around the world, but not may F18ht's were made.

Oh, yes you are right, I was. Not having much cat knowledge the F18HT is a slightly confusing name then. I take it it doesn't fit into the F18 rules?
