It was a good race until about 4 miles from the end......

Light wind down wind start with the tide which was interesting, with light wind all the way to calshot.  The wind didn't improve much until after we went past stokes bay and then got to of the shore of the island.

At that point a fanstastic thermal wind blew through for our sail to Beaulieu but when we came back to calshot two winds started to argue and left the leaders standing still while the rest of the fleet caught up.  10 minute leads fell to 10 second leads!!!

Personally it all went wrong about half a mile before the wind dropped when my leeward rudder fell off.  We managed to keep hold of it and had to finish the race with only the windward rudder so we were happy to only lose one place and come 6th!  Minimal damage though only 2 bits of metal!

still 40 odd boats isnt bad thats more than most nationals and i bet the fast cat wasnt that popular when it ran the first race. I did want to do it but im away on holiday i think thats the case for most people.

long distance events like this are few and far between if it doesnt get the support I doubt it will be run again and that will be another decent event lost.

I'd do it except:

A, I have a single handed boat

B, it's slap in the middle of school Holls so I'm away with the wife and kids !

If it was another time I'd try and find a boat and Crew !

Wanna learn to Ski - PM me..
