Has any one put something the size of a 200 spinni on a 12 before.

I’ve only sailed a 200 once but compared to the 12’s Id sailed previously I found it a little unrefined and frustrating.

What Id really like is the best of both but so far as I can tell all the hiking asymmetric’s are SMODS#

Does any one know different?

Ian

I didn't realise that the National 12 had a kite????? (think there may have been some confusion between other 12 foot boats and and the N12 )......Might be worth a shot but I'd also be looking at comparible symetrical kites too, the 200 kites are only about 8 sqm.

Austrailian MG14. As far as I can tell it has the same hull as the NS14 but this trapeze and assy kite. Unfortunatly not avalible in the uk.

An Assy was put on a 12 in the early 90's, but it was a very poor effort. I think a spinnaker the size of a 400 kite on a modern N12 hull would be awesome... Its on my list of things to build when I have run out of work to do on my current boat!

I'd think a 200 kite would go nicely on a National 12 - they're wide boats so you should be able to cope with the power on a reach easily. The only worry is that you may rip the foredeck off!
Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer.

Yeah it might not look good on the insurance claim.

"yeah i attached up a spinni myself to the boat, needed a bit more power"

little bit of bracing in the hull, bit more carbon here, bit less there a block on the mast, some string and hey presto! a 12 with a kite.

or for an even cheaper modification you could buy a cherub... remove the trapeze wires and sell them on ebay... then with the money you've earned you could buy some webbing to make some toe straps!
